Job Opportunity for a Full time Equine Clinician with a strong interest in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation

Due to our expanding practice, Newcastle Equine Centre is searching for an Equine Clinician or Equine Surgeon with a strong interest/speciality in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation to join our practice in Newcastle, NSW, Australia.

Newcastle Equine Centre is located in beautiful Newcastle adjacent to Newcastle Racecourse and five minutes from many of the most beautiful beaches in NSW. Newcastle is a working port city with beautiful beaches, great schools, and great lifestyle.  It is the gateway to the Hunter Valley which boasts one of the best Thoroughbred breeding areas in Australia.

Our practice is a combination of ambulatory and referral practice which provides reproductive services for local breeding farms as well as in-hospital facilities to manage surgical, paediatric, and emergency medical cases. Currently, our team consists of four full-time and two part-time equine veterinarians, a veterinary pathologist, a specialist Equine Surgeon, Dr Paddy Todhunter, a Board-certification candidate in Equine Medicine and 12 support staff.    Our case load covers all aspects of equine veterinary practice including dressage, eventing, pony club, polo, racetrack and reproduction. Digital x-ray machines, endoscopy (dynamic and video), ultrasounds, laser, in-house laboratory and dental instruments including a power float are available at our clinic.

Newcastle Equine Centre is expanding to provide long term rehabilitation services for our clients and other injured horses and are offering an opportunity for an experienced Equine clinician, Equine Surgeon with an interest in lameness, or board-certified Equine Sports Medicine Veterinarian the opportunity to build this aspect of the practice at our new rehabilitation location.

The available position is a permanent full-time job with variable duties depending on the qualifications of the applicant but encompassing working with our surgeon on the rehabilitation of our long-term patients.

To be successful for this job, an applicant should have a minimum of the following:

  • Practice experience as a general equine practitioner for a minimum of three years.
  • Ideally, completion of an approved residency and eligibility to sit speciality board examinations in Equine Surgery or Equine Sports Medicine.
  • Qualification in Veterinary Science acceptable for registration in New South Wales
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain excellent professional relationship with horse-owning clients, referring veterinarians and work colleagues from stable hand level to specialists.

We have a 5-day work week with a rotation of nightly and weekend on-call duty roster depending on qualifications.  Salary range is $110,000 – $150,000 AUD per annum plus Superannuation, car and phone allowance depending on experience and qualifications.  Accommodation can be negotiated for the right person.
